Dc Comics Characters
The Joker is a character from the Batman comic-book series. He’s certainly the most famous of Batman’s foes, and he has a good claim
to being the greatest comic-book villain of all time. The Clown Prince
of Crime (as he called himself in his campy 1960s incarnation) could
probably get away with calling himself a legitimate cultural icon.Like most of the Batman rogue’s gallery, his origin has been retold a
few different times, and some of the details have never been filled in –
he’s never received a real name, for instance. In the most popular
version of the story, however, he was a small-time criminal who fell
into a vat of toxic chemicals during a heist gone bad. The accident gave
him his bizarre appearance and left him irrevocably insane.
Over the years, the Joker has terrorized Gotham City despite Batman’s best efforts to keep him confined in Arkham Asylum, and on occasion his brutality has struck very close to home He claimed the life of Jason Todd, the second Robin, and left Barbara Gordon paralyzed after shooting her in front of her father. Different storytellers have come up with different answers to the central dilemma the Joker poses, though -- is he pure, inhuman evil, or is there a troubled soul still in there somewhere?
